Feds Increase Cannabis Production At Mississippi Farm

Federal immigration bill hatch marijuana growingMost people don’t know that the federal government grows and supplies medical cannabis to four patients enrolled in the Compassionate Investigational New Drug program. The program had more patients when it started in the 1970-s, but there are four patients grandfathered into the program that still receive medical cannabis to this day. The cannabis is grown at the University of Mississippi. Considering the federal government’s official position is that cannabis has no medical value, the existence of such a program is a slap in the face to science, logic, and compassion.

Recently the United States government boosted production at the facility. Per Marijuana Business Daily:

Researchers there are hoping to produce 30,000 new plants, which will be used primarily for medical marijuana research. One researcher at the facility is pursuing a study of cannabidiol.

The increase comes after the DEA approved plans to boost the government’s annual production of marijuana from 21 kilograms to 650 kilograms, which equates to about 1,433 pounds.

Why would the federal government fight so hard against medical cannabis at the state level and fight rescheduling cannabis, yet have a program in Mississippi? Conspiracy theorists suggest it’s because the federal government wants to have the monopoly on cannabis research and prohibit the rollout of cannabis as a form of medicine until they can corner the market. I think there’s a lot of logic behind that theory.

It’s time that the feds acknowledged that cannabis is medicine. It’s time that the federal government stepped out of the way and let states handle this issue. Or even better, legalize cannabis at the federal level and be done with it altogether. It’s clearly time for a new approach across the country.

  3. Don’t forget that Rush Limburger also got busted for an excessive amount of Viagra–to go mountain climbing in the Dominican Republic. Any male in the know should tell you that quality MJ has basically the same effect.

  4. Shannon Smothers on

    Their names are:
    Barbara Douglas
    George McMahon
    Levy Musikka
    Irvin Rosenfeld

These are the 4 remaining people in the program

  5. plasticjebus on

Here is a link to the organization created by the very people receiving US government pot. One of them is Irv Rosenfeld – a very public and vocal Florida stockbroker. To my knowledge, the last patient accepted into the program is Barbara Douglass – a Multiple Sclerosis patient living, I believe, in Iowa. BTW – the federal prescription for marijuana starts at 300 machine rolled cigarettes weighing approximately 3/4 of a gram each. They receive 300 cigarettes as often as every 3 weeks.

  6. I would like the names of these four individuals perhaps through the freedom of information act. Why is the US government allowing these four individuals use and denying the rest of us because it is a schedule 1 drug and federally still illegal. What audacious hypocrisy. I’ll bet one is Rush Limbaugh. He got away with possession of copious amounts of narcotic pain killers. We no longer live in a representative democracy. It has become a crony based theocracy with the “of the people, by the people, FOR THE PEOPLE”, motto a joke.
Just read the link about the program that allows these four people to use federally rolled joints and their names. One of the four has a fingernail disease as his reason for his Medical Marijuana use. Read the link. Good old G.W. Bush stopped the program so I guess they are some of his cronies. Yea I’m angry. Yea I’m being vindictive if I feel they should not be allowed while the rest of us suffer. It’s not at all in my nature to be this way and it all seems so asinine to me in light of the probable fact that the above the law wealthy smoke marijuana and probably snort federally produced cocaine. Yes, pharmaceutical cocaine is also manufactured with the government’s permission. I do not approve of or use of any drug for recreational reasons, but MARIJUANA IS NOT A DRUG. It’s a thousands of year old weed that has been used for millenia by civilized populations.
    Audacious hypocracy.

  7. It’s just irritating that corporation control so much of our nations policy. Hey companies and ultra wealthy individuals how many millions of dollars do you actually need. If you fear compitiion make better medicine, brew a better beer, Tabaco stop putting addictive chemicals in cigarettes they are addictive enough. Oh yea stop being so greedy. Legalize it America

  8. Urge your legislators to implement a cannabis policy similar to that of alcohol. Please consider what the following cannabis legalization organizations have to say. Help end this unjust, unfounded, harmful prohibition by joining their mailing lists, signing their petitions and writing your legislators when they call for it.

    DPA – Drug Policy Alliancehttp://www.drugpolicy.org/
NORML – National Organization to Reform Marijuana Lawshttp://norml.org/

  10. The weather seems harsher now days to me. I dont know.(?)
My savings just ain’t drawing no interest it seems.
My dollar don’t seem to buy as much as I though it should anymore. Everything seems so high.
Most of the commercials on tv during the evening news seems to be either for some strange perscript meds or hospitals or some form of surgery I just might need someday. (God forbid)

I’m tired man. Im tired of all this shit. I’m not some stupid brain dead s.o.b. that just sets and stares at the tv…

I see the President swung around by Colorado on his way back from Tx today. Lucky #$/^&. Haha

(I would of done that to I think). :)

  11. As long as the tobacco and alcohol lobbies fight the legalization of herb it will not happen on a federal level.

  12. Don’t forget each joint is rolled and has exact weight for this program plus the four patients get a nice collectors tin all of this through U.S. mail. Free complements of the United States of America. This has been going on since the beginning of the 70’s. But they still say marajuana has not been studied enough. No other drug has been studied for a longer period of time. The only reason why marajuana is still illegal is because our government forced countries with our treaties to follow our marajuana laws. Our countries doesn’t want to admit they were wrong with this prohibition also. Legalize it America
