Final Poll Still Shows Oregon Marijuana Legalization Initiative Winning

oregon medical marijuana cannabis oregonian newspaperIn what is likely to be the final poll released regarding Oregon Measure 91, the marijuana legalization initiative is still winning by a decent margin. A poll was recently released by KGW News and The Oregonian which showed the initiative losing 46%-48%, but that poll was quickly dismissed since it assumed that 70% of voters would be over 51 years old, and it relied so heavily on phone calls to land lines. The more recent poll shows the following results, per Fire Dog Lake:

It looks like Oregon will be the third state to legalize marijuana. The latest SurveyUSA poll for KATU finds Measure 91 with majority support. If approved, the measure would legalize, tax and regulate marijuana for adults 21 and over.

The poll found 52 percent of likely voters planning to vote for the ballot measure, while 41 percent are planning to vote no. The remaining 7 percent are undecided.

That’s the same level of support that other polls had, so I think those numbers are fairly accurate. Voter turnout is going to make or break this initiative. If there is high voter turnout, the initiative will win. If voter turnout is lack luster, it likely will fail. If you haven’t voted yet, please do so, and if you know someone that hasn’t voted, give them a gentle reminder to do so as well!

  1. Hey, Johnny! When this same polling company asking this exact same questions back in September only showed us ahead by 4%, you said this poll was flawed. LOL! All kidding aside, I kind of agreed with you. I thought the questions were OK, but the fact that it had Portland even and the rest of Oregon with “yes” several points ahead made me think they may have gotten a bad sample. That happens sometimes.

As far as this poll goes, the thing that really makes me optimistic is the numbers for those who have already turned in their ballots. Also, the OR SOS office tells us that we are pretty much on track for a normal mid-term turnout this year.

BTW, that KGW/Oegonian poll you cited had the breakdown as 44/46 not 46/48.

  2. It hard to believe how brain washed or ashamed to admit the truth and how the No on 2 people are and how their beloved Government and Churches have Lied to them but lets re-read what made Cannabis illegal and the corruption that followed. In his speech to 1936 Congress from the fist drug czar Harry Anslinger There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.

The primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.

Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.

Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.

Marihuana leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing

You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.

Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.

  3. Please GO VOTE TO LEGALIZE. The status quo does not work. We have the highest incarceration rate and prison population of victimless crime in the world! Yes more than China and Russia!

  4. No, I meant like nervous that the results of these 3 legalization initiatives on the ballot this year won’t be in our favor.

  5. Beware the propaganda polls. Always always ALWAYS check the polling specifics. Pollsters know how to get the results they want by manipulating which demographics they survey. Conservative-leaning pollsters nefariously only call landline phones and oversample senior citizens to manufacture polling results with an overly conservative bent. Getting them to own up to it can be a chore, but it can be done — never accept any number they throw out at you. Check everything.

There was a cannabis poll here in Georgia a couple years ago that claimed 57% of Georgians oppose any “loosening” of our cannabis laws. However, only 18% of the respondents were under the age of 40. The pollster deliberately called only landlines to ensure over 1/4 of the responses came from the 65+ age bracket. The pollster was caught in a lie when he claimed the sampling was done to reflect voter turnout from the previous midterm election, as the number of voters under the age of 40 who turned out for that election was significantly higher than 18%. In the Information Age, they can only lie to you if you allow it. A fair poll taken less than one year later found that 54% of Georgia voters want cannabis treated like alcohol (cell phones were included, obviously).

Two weeks ago, I read about a poll commissioned by the Tampa Bay Times concerning Florida’s medical cannabis ballot initiative, claiming “2 is done” as their poll alleged a 12 point deficit. However, no media outlet reporting the results provided a link to the poll’s specifics, only saying their results are “weighted by age, party registration and media market.” Nobody has published the actual numbers, anywhere — you’d think they would be proud to share the results if they are to be believed. Every poll willing to share their numbers publicly shows the Florida initiative narrowly winning or winning comfortably by several points.

  6. It does seem that polling to land lines is out of date. The only people in my family who still have a land line are my 85 year old parents. Turn out projections that I have seen are estimated to be 70%. I truly hope that is enough. Marijuana legalization will be great for our state. Due to my career it remains to be seen if I’ll be able to partake until I retire but that’s only two years away and I should be able to do so legally!
