Flint ‘Leaders’ Disregard Will Of Voters, Will Ignore Marijuana Reform Measure

FLINT, MI -The City of Flint has announced that despite a successful ballot measure decriminalizing the adult possession of marijuana approved by 54% of voters last week, it would continue to prosecute people for marijuana possession. Today Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, a group of law enforcement officials who support legalization of marijuana publicly condemned the city’s actions.

“This is in direct violation of the wishes of voters who opted for a decriminalization approach similar to those successfully implemented in cities across the country,” said Executive Director Neill Franklin. “Keeping marijuana illegal benefits no one. It’s expensive, ineffective, and destroys the relationship between police and the communities they serve. The citizens of Flint spoke loud and clear in favor of change. City officials should respect the wishes of the voters who put them into office and can remove them just as easily.”

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition (LEAP) represents police, prosecutors, judges, corrections officials and others who, after witnessing the harms of the drug war firsthand, are now devoted to ending that war. More info at www.CopsSayLegalizeMarijuana.com.

Again, it’s all about the money and job security. It’s far easier fining pot users and locking them up then it is to crack down on real criminals. It’s just like hunters – if the deer were armed with weapons, there would be a lot less hunters. If every pot user were violent and toting a weapon, there would be a lot fewer arrests…

  2. Then the bastards will lose their jobs!!! Simple as that! What gives them the right to pick and choose laws they want to enforce and what laws they want to disrespect!! They think they own the law!!! They have jobs because we the people voted them in and we the people can vote the bastards out just as easy!!! The times are a changing for the better and those that refuse to get over it will be their selves standing in a fucking bread line!!!!

  3. 1 question would we be allowed to change any elected official No. Then what gives them the right to disregard electorial process because their not happy with the outcome.

  4. Unless there is some sort of provision in the new law that allows for local authorities decide to implement or ignore the law they have no choice in the matter. Law enforcement cannot arrest or fine anyone for a law that no longer exists. If they arrest and detain anyone (that would be protected under the new law) they can be sued for false arrest. After a couple of lawyers sue the city for false arrest, for few thousand dollars, they will change their mind.

  5. Imagine that… Politicians NOT doing the WILL of the voters? There’s ONE WAY to fix that… Vote the BASTARDS OUT of OFFICE in THEIR NEXT election ands TELL THEM WHY YOU’RE VOTING AGAINST THEM! ELECTIONS can be a great thing if done CORRECTLY and voting out those who don’t comply with the will of the voters is a MAINSTAY of our country.
