A study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health found that those with a high IQ as a child are more likely to use illegal drugs as young adults.

For the study, researchers used data from roughly 8,000 people from the British Cohort Study, a large ongoing population study which examines lifetime drug use, socioeconomic factors, and education levels. IQ scores were measured at the ages of 5 and 10; years later, data was gathered on drug use at the age of 16, and again at the age of 30.

After analyzing the data, researchers found that men with high IQ scores at the age of 5 were around 50% more likely to have used illegal drugs such as ecstasy and cannabis compared to those with considerably lower scores when they were adults.

For women, the link was even stronger. Those with high IQs were nearly twice as likely to use illegal drugs compared to those with lower IQs.

The study, which was conducted by researchers at Cardiff University, concludes that; “High childhood IQ may increase the risk of illegal drug use in adolescence and adulthood.”

A person’s rate of depression during adolescence, their parental social class, and their lifetime household income had no effect on these findings.

  1. Are the retards in your country so much worser than in my country or those countries around me? But we have not those violence bahavior from cops.Sometimes.But after such incident it is fast and quick out of the force. In my country we have an police force from about 45.000 and every 3 days one cop get fired for bad or violent bahavior. FIRED , not put for 6 months behind a desk. And in my country not only a few cops smoke pot. And i did indeed have great talks with cops .But here we have no fear for cops.Cops may also not lie. They may not trick me into some criminal act.And it is not against the law to walk away from a cop. There is no law that tels me to help some cop to arrest me. You see.It is a bit diverent from the way we look at cops and cops look to the public.Cops do a great job here. Some i hate, some i like ,most i ignore. And we hardly see cops in the streets.Weird.And i feel pretty safe to.Oh yes.Average IQ from oure cops was 98. That was not so good.So changes are on its way.;-)

  2. Well there went your IQ, cops don’t smoke weed because they can’t. The cities they work for won’t have it. I’m a retired cop and if I had a nickel for every time another cop said “wish we could burn one”. As for the aggressive and violent behavior, that’s to match that of the retards on the streets to keep it even…. You’d be surprised at how many light up after retirement.. Most cops are educated, hard working, and have to make big decisions before you say “what”!! Cops are just normal guy’s doing a difficult job under difficult circumstances with way too many political rules to abide by. You’ve probably had a great conversation with an off duty cop and didn’t know it..

  3. Being the dumbest person in the room would give me hope for humanity, in the mean time, I’ll hit that…

  4. Well I know that is what started me. I was tired of nobody understanding the things I was talking about. I started studying philosophy and astrophysics about 12. My thought was if I used drugs, I could dumb myself down enough to fit in. In case anyone wondered it didn’t work I learned how to dumb down what I was talking about so others could understand. It makes even more sense for the results in women, Since alot of women feel the need to dumb down to fit in.

  5. Smart ppl do smart drugs. How amazing.lol. Now we know why cops are so dumb, agressive and violent.IQ far below 100 and only drinking.

  6. The logical fallacy here is pretty clear. They don’t include alcohol consumption because it’s not an ‘illegal” drug.

We have seen in the past that studies show the more education a person has, the more likely they are to choose near harmless marijuana over addictive, very harmful alcohol.

This just makes good sense. – There’s nothing like getting the WHOLE picture.

“Being smart may increase the risk of drug use…” well, what the hell. They talk about it like some kind of factor in a disease!
