How Mary Jane’s House Of Glass Broke My Heart

12

chong bongI woke up today pumped to light off some fireworks, and to do something that I have been trying to knock off my bucket list for a long time. It has been a dream of mine to meet Tommy Chong, and have him autograph my Chong Bong. I look at Smokey’s autographed Chong Bong at his store in Salem, Oregon and I always get green with envy. I though that today was finally going to be the day that I was going to fulfill that dream, as Tommy Chong was set to appear for autographs and pictures at Mary Jane’s House of Glass on Millplain Blvd in Vancouver, Washington.

Despite my Chong Glassconstant thirst for anything involving marijuana, I didn’t hear about the autograph session until Friday of last week. I instantly text all of my stoner friends to see who wanted to go, and we rounded up the crew. Keep in mind, Vancouver, Washington is quite the trek from Eugene, Oregon, so I called ahead of time to make sure everything was lined up. Ring, ring, ‘Hello, Mary Jane’s House of Glass.’ ‘Is Tommy Chong appearing at your store today?’ ‘Yes Tommy Chong is here signing autographs and taking pictures; he will be here until 6pm.’ ‘Thanks, we are on our way!’

While we were driving up Interstate 5, I was getting anxiety with every mile marker passed. I brought my Chong Bong along with a killer poster that I obtained at the Spring Gathering 2011 in June with the hopes that I could convince Chong to autograph both of them. When we got there, there were a lot of disappointed faces and chaos at the door of the shop. It didn’t take long to figure out the reason — you had to have prepaid for a set amount of ‘autograph tickets’ in order to meet Chong and get his sought after John Hancock. I was so bummed; we were totally denied.

Mt KushmoreI have never been to that headshop before, but I know that there are several of them in a chain, and that they advertise a lot in the Portland metro area. You can frequent the establishments if you like, but I have to say that I was not satisfied with my experience. I tried to ask the lady running the door, ‘Baby Jane,’ why didn’t anyone tell us this information on the phone and that we drove a long way. She got very upset with me and told me that it wasn’t her problem. It was a mind blowing experience, and not in a good way!

Luckily, I was able to burn away my sorrows with some top notch Washington fireworks. In Oregon, the fireworks are sparklers and pop-its. I have made many a trip across the border into Washington State to get bottle rockets, mortars, and M-80s up to M-1000s for the Fourth of July…I would pay top dollar for a mortar that blew up into a marijuana leaf, if there is anyone out there!!

Phrase of the day — ‘Yes officer, I plan on using all of these before I cross the river into Oregon….’

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY TO ALL OF YOU TWB READERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. One man was arrested and 5 pounds of dried marijuana seized Friday following a police search at a Washougal business.

At 12:12 p.m., a Washougal police officer was flagged down by a citizen in front of “Mary Jane’s House of Glass – Precious Paws Dog and Cat Food,” at 1825 “E” St.

The citizen said he was inside Mary Jane’s for approximately 20 minutes yelling for the store clerk but nobody came to the counter. Concerned something may have happened to an employee inside the store, he exited the building to call 911 and then contacted a Washougal Police vehicle driving past on “E” Street.

Officers searched the store and discovered a sleeping male on the floor of an office, and another room that contained a large amount of dried marijuana laying all over the floor, counters, and in open large plastic garbage bags.

The man, 21-year-old Mario Corona, was uninjured and later arrested and booked into the Clark County Jail on one count of felony possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

WPD officers later re-entered the building and executed a search warrant.

According to a press release, the room with the largest amount of marijuana appeared to be used as a processing room and contained packaging material, a bag sealing machine, scale, loose marijuana, and stripped marijuana stalks.

Numerous smoking devices, including glass pipes and water pipes known as “bongs,” containing burnt residue were also seized. In addition, officers noted loose marijuana on the floor in several of the rooms behind the store front.

In all, approximately 5 pounds of dried marijuana was removed from the store.

According to police, the investigation continues and additional arrests may occur.

In a Feb. 23, 2010, Post-Record article, “Mary Jane’s House of Glass – Precious Paws Dog and Cat Food” owner Jill Brock said that month she had added sales of glass pipes, used for the purpose of delivering medical marijuana, to her business that also sells products for pets.

“You can always buy glass,” she said at the time. “It’s sand. It’s not illegal ‘til you do something with it. We sell nothing in the line of clear glass for crack addicts and ‘meth heads.’ They don’t need to come around. This is strictly art glass for medical marijuana.”

There are six Mary Jane’s House of Glass stores in the Clark County and Portland areas. According to its website, it is a family-owned business in operation for more than 12 years and sells “hundreds of unique products, including glass pipes, bongs, candles, incense, and more.”

  3. On December 16th, 2011 at 12:12 PM Washougal Police Officer Houts was flagged down by a citizen in front of a business called “Mary Jane’s House of Glass – Precious Paws Dog and Cat Food” (one business) located at 1825 “E” Street Washougal WA.

The citizen informed the officer that he was inside Mary Jane’s for approximately 20 minutes yelling for the store clerk but nobody came to the counter. The citizen thought something may have happened inside the store and exited the building to call 911 when he saw the Washougal Police vehicle driving past on “E” Street.

The officer notified dispatch that he was flagged down and waited for additional units prior to entering the store.

Once the officers entered the store they announced themselves several times in a very loud manner. After receiving no responses the officers searched the store portion of the building for employees and didn’t find anyone.

Concerned for the safety and well being of the employees, the officers began looking for the employees in the remaining portion of the building. The rear portion of the building consisted of several different rooms.

Officers entered what appeared to be an office and found a male laying on the floor, the male’s head was laying away from the officers and he was unresponsive to their commands.

The officers continued clearing the various rooms for potential suspects or victims while an officer remained with the man lying on the floor.

While clearing the other rooms the officers came accross a room that contained a large amount of dried marijuana laying all over the floor, counters, and in open large plastic garbage bags.

Once the officers deemed the building was cleared of potential suspects or additional victims they were able to return their attention to the man on the floor. The man eventually woke up and identified himself Mario Corona, age 21. Corona was not injured; he was the lone store employee, and he had apparently fallen asleep on the floor.

Based on the officers initial observations Corona was detained for suspicion of Possession of Marijuana and removed from the building. The officers also left the building, set up containment, and applied for a Search Warrant.

After receiving the Search Warrant the Washougal Police Officers re-entered the building to search.

  4. Well the “smokn’ hot girl” was indeed BabyJane.
I was there as well and there were A LOT of people that came from quite a distance to see Tommy Chong. The staff of MaryJanes AND Tommy appeared to be doing their best but can only stretch something out so far before heading off to catch a plane. And on a holiday no less.
Previous comment is exactly true. Was an AMAZING event worth coming for the whole day.
Sorry you missed out but not the fault of MaryJane’s.

  5. The state has pretty much shut them down from getting decent product in Washington. The new legal “sachet” products do not cut it.

Well this story is not true… It was all first come first serve… We started
At 12:00. People flew in from Tennessee and came from all over. If this event
Was so important to you as you state you would have been first in line. Chong is so popular that we had such a large turnout that he could only sign so many people’s things. I understand you came along way and I remember you, I NEVER said that it wasn’t my problem. We explained to the remainder of people who did not get in to enter the building and at least say hi. At 6:00 Chong came outside twice signed more things and did more photos before his plane left. we are a wonderful family business and do everything we can for our customers. if you would like to email me personally your more than welcome to and I can explain and answer any questions you have. Realbabyjane@yahoo.com. Again I’m sorry you came late and missed your chance.

  8. That is a bummer. About 8 years ago I found out Tommy was in a bar in Bremerton, Wa doing stand-up, after that it was finding Where’s Waldo that never happened…

  9. How where you turned away? what time did you get there?
I got there at 12:30, payed my 5$ for his signature, & waited for 4 fucking hours to get him to sign my wallet. But you honestly could have had a good time reguardless if you could meet Tommy or not, they had food, live music, & a glass blower blowing glass right in front of you (THAT WAS BLOWING THEM FOR PEOPLE FOR ABSOLUETELY FREE!!!!)
