Someone Needs To Get Paul Whitesell An Application For Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

During a budget committee meeting this week, Indiana State Police Superintendent Paul Whitesell was asked about marijuana, and here’s what he had to say:

“It’s here, it’s going to stay, there’s an awful lot of victimization that goes with it. If it were up to me, I do believe I would legalize it and tax it, particularly in sight of the fact that several other states have now come to that part of their legal system as well.”

I think that at the end of the day, a vast majority of police officers would prefer that marijuana was legal, so that they could fight real crime. I know if I was an officer, I would be so tired of enforcing a sham policy. It’s embarrassing when one really thinks about it. In any profession, would you like to enforce a rule the punishment of which is far more severe than any side effect from the act itself? Ludicrous!

I hope more officers get the courage to stand up and speak their mind, especially high ranking officers. In an era where government budget cuts are now the norm instead of the exception, it would be nice to see resources going to where they actually need to be going. If a superintendent in a conservative state like Indiana can step up and speak his mind, officers across America should be able to follow suit.

  1. Victim less crime on

I agree, I recently have a D felony for possession Marijuana in the state of Indiana… (for having less than one gram). Your second possession charge in this state is a D felony. Please some one help us….

  2. How many times have you heard of someone coming home from work and smoking a couple of joints and BEATING THE HELL OUTTA their WIVES? I’ll almost bet my BOTTOM DOLLAR, they’ve NEVER received a call like that! ALCOHOL’S the problem

  3. His name is well known throughout Indiana. He’s put his 2¢ in on MANY other issues in Indiana ad well. His opinions MATTER

  4. That’s Exactly right, If you can grow it in your garden for yourself it should be fine, officers should still enforce it when people are stupid or if they get greedy but enforce it to the people that are minding there own business and mean no harm to others is ridiculous , they should use more common sense instead of a book stupid documentation, but yet again common sense is not so common now a days. There will be a lot more smiles if they would legalize it instead of a country full of people failing drug test for marijuana. They just go get there self a 12 pack and wrap there car around a tree or another car. Ive never been in a wreck or had a problem driving after i smoked a joint, its the drunks that wreck, but we still deal with it everyday.
