It Has Been An Incredible Year For Marijuana Reform

marijuana election 2012By Major Neill Franklin (Ret.), Executive Director, Law Enforcement Against Prohibition

2012 has been an unprecedented year for drug policy reformers. We were victorious in securing full legalization of marijuana in Colorado and Washington State, and the coming months will reveal models of legalization taking shape.

Massachusetts became the eighteenth state to legalize medical marijuana. Guatemalan President Otto Perez Molina called for drug legalization in Central America and beyond. Victims of the drug war in Mexico and the United States came together and spoke out for reform during the Caravan for Peace with Justice and Dignity. Cops and moms across the United States joined together to call for an end to the war on drugs.

Law Enforcement Against Prohibition was there every step of the way, and we are so proud to have been a driving force behind this incredible progress. To top off an already amazing year, LEAP celebrated significant milestones of our own in 2012, marking our tenth anniversary and initiating our official LEAP membership program. We wouldn’t have made it this far without your support. In the spirit of the season, please enjoy this short musical holiday greeting from LEAP.

  1. Hooray Hooray it is about time we had a really good year, but now that we have established a foothold it’s time to really dig in. We are in a histoical moment and we can not afford to get to stoned from the celebration while the Feds are sneaking in the back door to screw us. I keep hearing people talk about the presidents statements about the “bigger fish to fry” We are not fish we are Americans and every right we have we fought for. It is time we take a stance as a United People, those people we keep waiting on to make decisions for us are our elected officials. Contrary to popular believe they work for us and that means as their employers it is our job to tell them how we want them to vote. You must make your voice heard .For over thirty years we have lived under the stigma of the Cheech and Chong stoner( no disrepect to Mr Chong or Mr.Marin)and it is time we change the way the world sees us.

I have been a respected business man for most of my adult life and now that my children are grown and I don’t have to worry about DFCS showing up at my door I am determined to be heard by anyone that will listen. I am a Pot Smoker, I am a tax payer, I am a voter, I am a citizen and I will be heard.

So if you read this and it reminded you that you feel the same way make your voice heard , sign the petitions, take a few minutes out of your day and write your congressman and/or senator let them know how you feel and that you vote, remind them they work for you and that if they don’t do their job we will replace them.
