Jack Herer’s Last Public Speech

While I was browsing around YouTube this morning I came across video footage of Jack Herer’s last public speech before he passed away. It was filmed at Hempstalk in Portland, Oregon on September 12, 2009. I was lucky enough to meet Jack Herer once before he passed away, and it was one of the highlights of my life. I figured the video was worth passing along, in case there are rookies out there that don’t know much about the legendary Jack Herer.

“All but complete Johnny-come-latelies to cannabis culture probably have some awareness of Jack “The Hemperor” Herer as perhaps the most influential figure in the modern legalization movement. Herer, who passed away in April, wrote 1985’s The Emperor Wears No Clothes, the book that ignited the campaign and remains its manifesto and devoted nearly four decades to tireless, charismatic activism. The man almost literally died trying to have hemp and marijuana legalized in America. Were it not for Herer’s work, we might not be enjoying decrim here in California (and elsewhere)…” – Paul Rogers

  1. If I remember correctly he had a heart attack right after this speech. He made if off stage and collaped shortly thereafter. The guy was one hell of a fighter and never gave up. Mad props to “The Hemperor”.

  2. Its all about the fight, man. Fight to the end, throw them your best pitch, take the blows and turn the other cheek, then get back up and do it again. Respect.
