Kentucky House Speaker May Support Medical Marijuana

kentucky medical marijuana pollKentucky advocates for medical marijuana received a pleasant surprise last week when several media outlets reported that House Speaker Greg Stumbo (D-Prestonsburg) is now “leaning in favor” of passing a medical marijuana law.

Stumbo, formerly the state’s attorney general, has long been considered an opponent of reforming marijuana laws. When Kentucky was considering a bill to allow industrial hemp earlier this year, Stumbo’s attempt to block the bill resulted in a public dispute with the state Agriculture Commissioner James Comer. Stumbo eventually relented under strong public pressure and allowed the bill to pass.

Although industrial hemp and medical marijuana are very different issues, advocates feared Stumbo would take a similar attitude toward medical marijuana legislation. His recent comments would appear to pave the way for the Kentucky House to seriously consider a medical marijuana bill in 2014.

  1. I don’t agree with marijuana (AKA a seed baring herb) being held against any man, rather in ky, oh, or even japan. Thy Lord hath given all seed baring herbs to man, Genesis chapter 1 vers 29:

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat…

Marijuana doesn’t do any harm to the body. We need THC other wise the Lord thy God wouldn’t have given it to us. We have THC receptors in our brain, most wouldn’t know that but most do. And again it says in Genesis chapter 9 vers 3: Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. Now revelation chapter 4 vers 11 says this : Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou
hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. If God has given it, then whom is man to take it from thee? Maybe some ppl need to look out our constitutional rights, it’s the very first one. No congress shall make any law against any religion or practices thereof.

  2. The government has, and continues, to fail our country. Now I read news that W Va, Oh, and Pa are trying to pass medicinal law. Ky is poised to be a real large part of a revived hemp industry, bringing needed revenue to our state, and elected leaders cringe at passing laws that are nothing but beneficial. Eventually prohibition WILL end. Our so called leaders need to ask themselves if they want to be trail blazers, or have to change due to social pressures. The world is changing and those that don’t adapt are left behind.

  3. Good luck KY! And good luck to Oh & Pa. They too are trying in 2014.
I also hope some of that good luck comes to WVa. We’re trying again in the 2014 session starting Jan. (3rd times a charm I hope). Hopefully this year the bill will get to the floor for a vote. Since it’s an election year it might not pass, but at least we’ll know who needs voted out. :) Last poll I seen were 68% pro-medical. Get us together and we can make a change for sure. We just need a little help here and it will fly I think.
Anyway, show your support by writing your state reps. I write mine and I’m trying to teach him that it does have medical value, and that our sick should have the choice to at least try it without fear of going to jail.
