Let Me Know When Miley Cyrus Supports Marijuana Reform Efforts

The MTV music video awards occurred recently, which if you are on social media, then you are already well aware of that fact. You are then also likely aware that Miley Cyrus was the host, and she debuted a song about marijuana, and that she loves marijuana, and marijuana loves Miley, and they are going to live happily ever after together. As seems to always be the case with Miley Cyrus and marijuana, the media couldn’t help but swoon at every reference to marijuana that was made and/or insinuated by Miley and others.

I get that Miley Cyrus is very successful and famous, and I get that she loves marijuana. But what I don’t get is that the media eats up every time Miley Cyrus lights up a joint, but they are almost no where to be found when it comes to an ordinary person getting arrested for doing the same thing in the same city. I will be the first to commend Miley Cyrus on her career, which regardless of how one feels about her music and image, I think that we can all agree that she is successful. And she isn’t obligated in anyway to do anything for marijuana reform efforts. But it would be amazing to see her do so.

I do on the other hand blame the media for having a double standard, and I do urge Miley Cyrus to support reform. If Miley loves marijuana so much, and loves celebrating with marijuana, then she should want others to experience the same level of freedom with marijuana that she does. I don’t think that’s too much to ask. With Miley’s resources and fame, she could do things for the marijuana reform movement that no one has ever done before to this point.

What do TWB readers think? Are you tired of seeing the media (even some marijuana media) cover Miley in a way that seems to brush marijuana prohibition under the rug? Again, what she does on Instagram and on stage would get the average person arrested in most parts of America. Do TWB readers think that getting help from a polarizing figure like Miley Cyrus would be a good or bad thing? Why or why not? I look forward to reading your comments. If any of Miley Cyrus’ people read this, and feel compelled to support activism, shoot me an e-mail and I would be happy to provide a list of very worthy causes.

  1. I’ll give you that one AAMCO. Attention does indeed make her some money. I thought about that some more and realized I was wrong. As for me not being sharp… I don’t know. After my stroke last year, maybe I’m not. But then I see what’s going on in the world and sometimes wonder if anybody has a brain.

You should really stop trolling by the way. It doesn’t make you look sharp, and it doesn’t make you look witty. There’s no reason to get nasty.

  2. We’ll agree to disagree. I’m married, and thus do not wish to have sex with her. And I have no reason to not respect your opinion. As for the promoting Cannabis thing, I really don’t care if it does put people on the fence back to the prohibition side. If that is enough for them to put them to lean to prohibition, they aren’t very intelligent and they do not have the ability of critical thinking. Besides, we’re winning the war every day. Prohibition is coming to an end.

  3. Generally, she’s considered too far over the edge and her endorsement for legalization would appear to be coming from an evolved version of a 60s hippie, hence a lack of credibility other than being perceived as a typical stoner.
As several have stated, it would be nice to see her mature and use her incredible talent to reach a much broader audience.

  4. you’ve proven that your not sharp, thinking attention doesn’t make her money, we don’t want her so go sit in a corner with your tongue out shaking your ass

  5. wrong, all those instagram and facebook followers that watch her, buy her stuff, and articles like this all throughout the media keep her center of attention because she sticks her tongue out and shakes her ass. you think she can help. come on man

  6. I agree with the balanced approach some are taking here. While she “could” do a lot to promote the anti-prohibition she could also do harm as her provocative gestures and music are unappealing to many. I think she’s very smart and playing the media like a fiddle, but her “partier” persona (obviously she’s actually a very hard-working performer – proof is there on stage and tv and radio etc.etc.) could also be a turn off to the conservative prohibitionist type. She should be doing all she can to fund the movement and support politicians and activists but maybe stay in the background as her character matures, or perhaps be low-key about it, a mention now and then to go along with her pro-cannabis ‘tude. Good article and idea though, I hope she’s reading!

  7. Thanks for expressing your “RIGHT ON” opinion about Cyrus. She IS NOT GOOD for the Marijuana movement at all. Like someone else pointed out, her fan-base is teenagers. The last thing we as supporters of MMJ and recreational legalization need is someone such as Cyrus to ruin all the progress that has been made to this point. It might be better if she tries promoting METH or COKE, cause who cares if she makes those substances look worse…..nothing lost. MILEY: Stay away from publically associating yourself with weed PLEASE. You’re gonna ruin it for many, many people!!!

  8. I think that all these stars that we see smoking, like the image of them smoking more than anything. I think it would be awesome if they stood up and fought for reform if even talking about local medical laws in the states and cities there performing in doesn’t have to be financial support. I don’t think that will happen though.

  9. If she chose to be philanthropic about cannabis legalization, I would hope that would coincide with her developing a more mature image. It would be great to see her mature into adulthood, and THEN support cannabis reform.

  10. She does more harm than good. She may be successful, but she’s not respected by anyone over 22 for the most part because she acts like a trashy whore and a Bafoon on stage and in public. Sounds like you want to F her Mike, so I doubt you’ll respect my opinion, but we don’t need an idiot like this promoting Cannabis use to kids. This knocks people on the fence back to the prohibition side.

  11. i think that Miss Cyrus is denied a lot of the respect which she deserves because of her Madonna like antics . I myself believe her to be right up there with Barbara Striesand , Madonna , Lady Gaga , and many others . And yes I believe she would be very beneficial to the movement against prohibition.

  12. Honestly, I think the marijuana reform movement doesn’t need her help. She encourages young kids to try, or to want to try, marijuana. That’s the kind of thing that makes us all look bad. As a father of young kids, I find her music/image decadent, and I don’t want her media presence in my house. She’s no Sanjay Gupta

I think she smokes it because she likes it. I commend her for the song she made. She’s giving authority and society the big middle finger. I’d do the same thing. The only thing wrong with the music today is that a lot of it just isn’t good. But if you listen to enough music, you can say that about any era. Just my humble opinion. Peace dude.

There’s a lot of judgmental pricks out there. If you don’t know someone personally, you really shouldn’t be making comments on her character. This comment is only directed at the readers.

Not sure exactly what you’re saying, but the writer is saying she could take it upon herself to help with the effort, and it would indeed help. I don’t think anyone can argue that. Also, attention doesn’t make her a single dime. Her music/acting is what makes her money. Peace dude.

Today’s youth are tomorrows leaders. While Miley Cyrus may have a young fan base, eventually some of those fans will be in positions to help the movement. Any person who publicly exclaims a love for marijuana, should be willing to help spread the message.

  17. I haven’t followed her much, so someone can correct me if I’m wrong. But it seems the only life Cyrus is interested in improving is her own. – If she had a shred of compassion, I think we would have seen it by now.

  18. Her average fan is about 15 years old, I don’t think those are the right demographics are they?

  19. you’re talking about some one who makes more money the more attention they get. activism will not get any attention. whats next stories about kayne west and kim k. You are better than this

  20. Let’s not mention that Miley Cyrus smokes weed with her California medical card, so she isn’t really doing anything illegal anyways. It is doubtful, with inevitable legalization, that she is going to dedicate the majority of career to be a marijuana activist.
