Marijuana Legalization Proposal Filed In Georgia

georgia medical marijuanaWhen it comes to marijuana legalization efforts, the State of Georgia is probably not the first state that pops into your mind. But, despite Georgia not being at the top of people’s ‘marijuana legalization watch list,’ marijuana legalization efforts are underway in the Peach State. Per The Joint Blog:

Georgia State Senator Curt Thompson has filed a constitutional amendment aimed at legalizing recreational cannabis for everyone 21 and older.

Senate Resolution 6 will be considered by the state’a Legislature when it reconvenes on January 12th. If approved by lawmakers, it will be placed on the ballot to be voted on by the people before becoming law.

I would LOVE to see Georgia voters get a chance to vote on marijuana legalization. If voters turned down the proposal, I would be much more comfortable with that outcome than if the decision was made entirely by politicians. Do you live in Georgia? If so, what do you think the chances are that marijuana legalization would pass if the opportunity presented itself in Georgia? A victory in Georgia would be huge!

  1. I’ve lived in Georgia my whole life and was crazy surprised and excited when I first heard this. If the public gets a vote then I think it’ll be legalized without a doubt. Literally everyone and their mother smokes here. But sadly, I’m not getting my hopes up for a public vote.

  2. I also live in this political hellhole of a state. Most of my family lives in Washington and Oregon, but I’d sooner move to Colorado or Alaska because they’re more gun-friendly. I desperately want to see S.R.6 pass so I wouldn’t have to move away from my friends to not be a criminal.

  3. The liberty to vote would be huge. Here in Tennessee we should be true to the “Agriculture and Commerce” our State Motto boasts and enrich our farmers! The first Southern State to offer liberty to consenting adults will see amazing windfalls from a new budding economy. Jobs, tourism, increased freedom from the Nanny State, and new funds to improve the infrastructure and build schools.

Let’s start doing unto others as we would have them do unto us. None of us would want our kids put in jail over a little marijuana. None of us would want the police to confiscate and sell our parents’ home because they grew a couple of plants to help with the aches and pains of growing older. Let’s start treating other people the way we would want to be treated.

I live in GA. After reading this yesterday on ajc.com. I was super hyped. If the Senate approves this I will help with campaigning.
Also the same senator proposed a medical marijuana bill for Congress to vote on this General Assembly. Saying doctors should be given all types of medicine in order for them to properly do their job. Up to 2 oz for medical patients if Dr approved.
