Marijuana Policy Project Unveils Bus Ads In Portland, Maine

I have always been a fan of the Marijuana Policy Project’s ability to place ads in strategic places on billboards. It looks like now they are doing something similar by placing ads on the sides of buses. I wish they would do it here in Oregon! Below is a message from the Marijuana Policy Project, along with examples of the ads that are going to be featured:

A series of bus advertisements have been launched in Portland, Maine in support of Question 1.  On November 5, Portland voters will decide on a city ordinance that proposes removing penalties for adults possessing up to 2.5 ounces of marijuana. The ads feature adults explaining why they prefer marijuana to alcohol and ask, “why should adults be punished for making a safer choice?”

I like them all, but the last one about being rowdy and reckless is so very true. If they do well in Maine, they should try to do some here in Portland, OR.

  2. Most of the people I know are in the demographic that is being targeted, I think. So I put myself in their shoes before I made my comment. I guess I was looking for something more snappy, but I guess cannabis shouldn’t be too flashy. I bow to your marketing background and the obvious hard work that went into the campaign. :)

  3. I agree, (no surprise – I’m in the SW too). But coming from a marketing background, I understand the pains that went into choosing this course of action. It isn’t meant to appeal to you and I, but to people who don’t have our knowledge. I’m not fond of the ads, but I think they will be effective.

  4. every though of using a high quailty vaporizer that does not burn the marijuana, it just vaporizes the thc, there for you are only breathing in thc, no combustion process, and then there is ofcours space cake ect :P but take longer and has diverend effects

  5. I think it is referring to the toxic effects from combustion, a process which has to happen to obtain the effects of the THC. The cannabis plant itself is non-toxic, like parsley is non-toxic. But you don’t have to smoke or cook parsley to get its benefits, like you do with cannabis. Well, wait, maybe you can get the CBD benefits from cannabis just by eating it… Okay, I’m not a scientist, so I’m just guessing.

The one thing that rubs me a little is “less toxic”. From what I have read cannabis is non toxic, not less…….

  7. I’m gonna assume that the population of Portland, Maine is really different than here in the southwest, which is why these ads don’t really speak to me. I could be wrong, but they feel a little like they were conceptualized in the 1990s. Aside from that, any positive marijuana sign is a good sign (literally and figuratively).
