Massachusetts Marijuana Legalization Campaign To Highlight Hypocrisy Of Governor

massachusetts marijuana campaign 2016Backers of a ballot initiative to end marijuana prohibition in Massachusetts are launching a campaign Friday to highlight the hypocrisy of elected officials who oppose the initiative but promote the use of a more harmful substance — alcohol.

Leaders of the Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol will hold a news conference at 11 a.m. ET in front of the Massachusetts State House. They will have a large, provocative sign featuring their first two targets, Gov. Charlie Baker and Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, who just announced they have formed a committee to oppose the proposed initiative because they believe marijuana is too dangerous to regulate for adult use.

Baker has proposed legislation to loosen the state’s liquor licensing regulations and expand the number of locations in which alcohol can be served. He also supported repealing the state alcohol tax and opposed a Boston alcohol tax. Walsh proposed legislation to allow bars and restaurants to serve alcohol until 4 a.m., providing an extra two hours of drinking time.

“Our public policies should be based on scientific evidence, and the evidence clearly demonstrates alcohol is more harmful than marijuana,” said CRMLA Campaign Manager Will Luzier, who previously served as executive director of the Massachusetts Interagency Council on Substance Abuse and Prevention. “Marijuana is less toxic, less addictive, and less likely to lead to reckless and violent behavior.

“We want voters to be keenly aware of the blatant double standard being demonstrated by Gov. Baker and Mayor Walsh,” Luzier said. “Fighting to keep marijuana illegal while simultaneously pushing to expand access to alcohol is the height of hypocrisy. More importantly, it is detrimental to the health and safety of the people of Massachusetts.”

  1. Give them a free ride out of the state, on a rail just like they used to do in pioneering times, these turkies are promoting one of the worst and widest spread drugs in this country alcohol.Vote the scoundrels out.

  2. You’ve got my vote ! I personally had my freedom stripped from me and I will NEVER, NEVER forget that. And I have to and WILL find a way to even the score.
Right now, the first thing I can do and YOU can do is to make sure to cast votes for BERNIE SANDERS. He TRULY is our only hope for some type of democracy in this country. Otherwise, we will continue to be fully controlled by the Establishment.
VOTING is the ONLY peaceful way to see a Revolution through to its fruition….

  3. Time to vote them out. They are not serving the majority of the people in the state.

  4. I agree but don’t forget what happened in Ohio. Where the republican politicians created word as oligopoly and convinced enough people to vote heavily against it. Now, they are want some kind of medical baloney. They should voted for it while they had the chance. I hope this does not happen in Mass.

  5. If the task of Senators and Representatives is to decide what is best for us, they are doing a pretty poor job.

  6. If you want to regulate cannabis “JUST LIKE ALCOHOL”, you should make it legal to consume at all PUBLIC places that serve alcohol ! Night clubs, concerts, sporting events, parks and beaches… Either designate “smoking areas” or allow vaping… While second hand TOBACCO smoke kills 20,000 Americans annually, second hand pot smoke won’t make you sick or kill you… hell, it won’t even GET YOU HIGH !

  7. PeedNUrGenePool on

They conveniently overlook the fact that the LAWS against Marijuana destroy over 700,000 lives each year.

They conveniently overlook the fact that TOBACCO KILLS over 500,000 Americans every year. Where’s their ‘concern’ about those people dying?

They conveniently overlook the fact that ALCOHOL KILLS over 100,000 Americans every year.

So naturally, they overlook the fact that Marijuana KILLS NO ONE.

With 57% approval rating, the Marijuana Lobby is now big enough to get rid of these Prohibitionist fools.

We need to ORGANIZE, and VOTE THEM OUT!

  8. Sen GrASSly said the same thing a few weeks ago and now the haters are all repeating what a clueless, uneducated bigot stated, incorrectly and without any science behind it but then haters have never cared about the science.

Notice they said they “feel” it’s too dangerous, no proof, no science, no reports, no studies, just keep it illegal cause we “feel” it’s bad and we are the all knowing, all powerful, hater politicians.

Every politician that bashes cannabis will lose their jobs this time around.

With the advent of smartphones politicians cannot blow smoke up our ass anymore.

Let them keep talking, they are only proving themselves uneducated, bias, clueless and NOT worthy of the job.

Do Baker and Walsh really believe marijuana is more dangerous than killer alcohol, or is that besides the point to them? Either way they are very bad boys.
