Obama Dodges Medical Marijuana Question Again

obama medical marijuanaPresident Barack Obama sidestepped a question about medical marijuana legalization at a town hall event in Cannon Falls, Minnesota Monday.

“If you can’t legalize marijuana, why can’t you just legalize medical marijuana?” a woman asked the president.

“A lot of states are making decisions about medical marijuana,” Obama explained. “As a controlled substance, the issue is then that is it being prescribed by a doctor as opposed to… you know, well, I’ll leave it at that.”

While DEA raids on medical marijuana providers never came to a complete halt after the Obama administration declared in 2009 that it would not interfere with people operating in compliance with state medical marijuana laws, the pace did slacken. Yet the DEA’s medical marijuana raids not only have continued but are more frequent under Obama than they were under George W. Bush.

“What I’m not going to be doing is using Justice Department resources to try to circumvent state [medical marijuana]laws.”

About Author

  1. As a provider whose program worked with the disabled community I am ashamed of this president. He has no conviction and allows the persecution of patients and those of us who support the medical cannabis community.
Take a moment and listen to the dying speak about the importance of cannabis http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F4el6EGqcUw and then after watching this let anyone with any ammount of compassion speak against this movement.
MR PRESIDENT YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS and search your heart and stop this needless persection

Jesus said to do unto others as we would have them to do unto us. None of us would want our child thrown in jail with the sexual predators over marijuana. None of us would want to see an older family member’s home confiscated and sold by the police for growing a couple of marijuana plants for their aches and pains. It’s time to stop putting our own family members in jail over marijuana.
If ordinary Americans could grow a little marijuana in their own back yards, it would be about as valuable as home-grown tomatoes. Let’s put the criminals out of business and get them out of our neighborhoods. Let’s let ordinary Americans grow a little marijuana in their own back yards.
Here’s one way that IT IS REALLY WORKING: Arresting the criminals and collecting a fee from registered growers (and bringing in thousands of dollars to support the county budget); what a great plan! This is the way to build a better America! http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/2011/07/the-pot-republic-one-sheriffs-quietly-radical-experiment.html
The current proposal before Congress, bill HR 2306, will allow states to decide how they will regulate marijuana. You can email your Congressperson and Senators at http://www.usa.gov/Contact/Elected.shtml to discuss HR 2306.
And a big THANK YOU to the courageous, freedom loving legislators, governors, and countless others who are working so hard to bring this through! You’re doing a great patriotic service for all of America!

  3. [>>Obama:“As a controlled substance, the issue is then that is it being prescribed by a doctor as opposed to… you know, well, I’ll leave it at that.”] so he just doesn’t want people to self medicate? One of the pros of medical marijuana is the fact that it’s inexpensive compared to mainstream medication. If you restrict the use of it to only be allowed with a doctor’s script, that just adds onto the cost, you know?

  4. holy humping alley cats this man knows how to dodge a fucking question. I also hear he’s illegally holding office?

  5. Prescription drugs with medicaid/medicare go…the do NOT cover certain drugs even if it is the only drug that will work for that person…
I just want it noted how nervous someone sounds thats trying to cover their ass.
because thats what I heard, as far as medical marijuana..this is just to the stupid now…
are all 575 people vs. 300 billion or however many people we are the MAJORITY and we all know that majority rules even in the court room…if we all had half a brain we would just fire them all.
cannabis could not only get our country out of debt, we could all profit from it from our own health issues to about 12 other magical things that this plant does for us..but NO we cant have it …WHY.
it makes no sense to not go with the thought of creating jobs, the debt, the PEOPLES income, which helps with quality of life…as does the health perspective. MR PRESIDENT : MAKE THIS MAKE SENSE TO ME.
I want to know why the states like Ky, Tn, Wv, Mo…cannot grow cannabis ? Ky is literally starving…their is no help now and the FEDS are constantly cutting down crops and giving a MAX sentence. go for the pervs and other people of low character..leave us peaceful people alone…but I want my question answered. I want to know why you turn your back on us ? what up ? be real for a change and be that leader you keep talking about, jeez. JUST SAYIN’ its more than obvious. and its not a “party” thing R or D or anything..this is a straght up question.
thankyou for your time with this lengthy reply.
