Parents, Marijuana, And Prohibition: Daisy Bram’s Story

marijuana prohibition daisy bramAs her children were being taken away from her, Daisy Bram screamed, “My babies! My babies!”

In 2011, Daisy Bram and Jayme Walsh lived with their two small children, Thor and Zeus, in Butte County, California. Like so many other people in northern California, Bram and Walsh had medical marijuana recommendations and a small cannabis garden in their back yard. In September, their home was raided by Butte County sheriffs. Bram and Walsh were charged with cultivation of marijuana, possession with intent to sell, and child endangerment. Thor and Zeus were taken by Child Protective Services and placed in foster care for four months.

A year later, Bram gave birth to their third son, Invictus. With their Butte County cases still unresolved, Bram and Walsh decided to move their family to neighboring Tehama County.

In January of 2013, Tehama County sheriffs raided Bram and Walsh’s new home. This time they found a cannabis garden in a locked room off the back of the house. Child Protective Services once again seized Bram and Walsh’s children and placed them in foster care, where they remain to this day. On January 30, Tehama County officers seized Bram’s car. Walsh is currently in jail with bail set at one million dollars. Bram is out on bail awaiting future court dates.

“There is nothing worse that someone can be accused of than doing something to harm their own children. If someone from the government is going to come after someone and make that accusation, they better have the ammunition ready to go,” said Michael Levinsohn, Daisy Bram’s attorney.

Zeus (Ancient Greek: Ζεύς, Zeús; Modern Greek: Δίας, Días) is the “Father of Gods and men” (πατὴρ ἀνδρῶν τε θεῶν τε, patḕr andrōn te theōn te)[3] who rules the Olympians of Mount Olympus as a father rules the family according to the ancient Greek religion, and modern Hellenic Polytheistic Reconstructionism. He is the god of sky and thunder in Greek mythology. HisRoman counterpart is Jupiter, Hindu counterpart is Indra and Etruscan counterpart is Tinia.

In Norse mythology, Thor (from Old Norse Þórr) is a hammer-wielding god associated with thunder, lightning, storms, oak trees, strength, the protection of mankind, and also hallowing, healing and fertility. The cognate deity in wider Germanic mythology and paganism was known in Old English as Þunor and in Old High German as Donar (runic þonar ᚦᛟᚾᚨᚱ), stemming from aCommon Germanic *Þunraz (meaning “thunder”).

“Invictus” is a short Victorian poem by the English poet William Ernest Henley (1849–1903).

  4. they are a lot more likely to be abused in the care of the state. almost assuredly.

  5. This story is so wrong in so many ways. How could the children be in any danger when the cannabis was where they had no access to it and the parents sure did not give it to them. They are tearing apart a very loving Family all because Cannabis is illegal. What I do not understand is why our Government wont make it legal when it has no side affects like cigarettes or alcohol. And it has so many medical uses. I am so angry at our government right now I could scream, I have health issues that could be taken care of with medical marijuana but I can’t smoke it, I would have to have a digestible form of it but since it is not legal I can’t get a prescription and I can not afford to buy it on the street because I’m Disabled and my monthly income is only $730 a month. I can barely afford my studio apartment and utilities, and bare essentials. I’m very angry because if I was able to use canna butter I could work and not live on so little. I’m angry, angry ,angry , I WANT TO WORK.

  6. I think the concept of prohibition as it relates to Marijuana and Alcohol is a complete one. The underworld undercuttings are the same. I just realized that the rethoric is the same as well; something that I had never thought about. All of the talk of “demon rum” and the like. Songs of the day “I saw a man at the end of the day” a song about a drunkard who’s child begged for bread; comes to mind. There is no question that alcohol as a very damaging poison and subject to abuse. What remains is the absloute panic over the issue of cannibus from the prohibitionists. I have watched this drama since the summer of love. The sky has been a long time falling but hasn’t fallen yet unless blowing dope contributes to global climate change. I wait quietly for the dope-crazed masses to break out of the rock concert and rape and pilliage on my street and so far; no luck. I was hoping for naked feral sex-seeking chicks; without success. The drug fiends I know seem orderly, they smile easily and seem to make it to work on time and excersize every other aspect of good citizenship. The flow of cheetoes to my neighborhood seven-eleven even seems uninterupted so supply is keeping up with demand.
    Chill nay sayers; just chill.

  7. This would not be the hill to die on unless I knew what allegatons supported the huge bail on the father. I suspect that there are elements here which not being reported. As far as the removal of childern from their homes I dealt with that sort of litigation for thirteen years and can attest to the fact that one social worker will turn a blind eye to open and natorious abuse and another will remove a child for a saftey pin left on the floor. If these happings are just the way that they are reported that’s one thing. This however seems just a tad fishy. I would be interested in hearing the other side.
I can’t say that I’m at all impressed with giving names of mythical gods to your childern (or for that matter naming your kid Adolph Hitler) and I am not at all moved by moms protestations. If for any reason the parents are not given enough visitation with the children to keep the relationship then the state is committing it’s own huge crime.

  8. I would almost bet money that some of the people involved in the prosecution of their case talk things over in a local saloon, drive home, and cause more grief to their families than Daisy or Jayme ever would. Even though they used poor judgement being popped a second time as far as I know being stupid is not a crime. I’m not sure of this though but I’ll research it on whitehouse.gov and try to find out if big brother slipped one by US.

  9. Hold your horses. I’ve known people named Thor. It’s a good Scandinavian name.

  10. you dipshit on

No, They are not. As a personal example of living with the state, it is NOT BETTER. I REPEAT. NOT BETTER THAN LIVING WITH PARENTS WHO ACTUALLY LOVE YOU.

  11. Humboldtbabe on

These people were big time growers with a industrial grade bud trimmer in their home, these things cost 18 thousand dollars, this level of growing is not smart when you have kids, people with guns will rob you! The kids are better off with the state, at least they will not get a bullet in the cross fire! The names they gave those kids is child abuse!

  12. Invictus?, they should not be arrested for the weed, they should be sent to prison for the names they named their children. What selfish assholes!!!!

  13. Thor and Zeus?! Are they trying to fuck these kids up for life? I think mommy and daddy have had too much vitamin LSD!
