Pennsylvania Senate Likely To Vote On Medical Marijuana Today

philly norml marijuana pennsylvania philadelphiaYesterday was a very big day for medical marijuana in Pennsylvania. A medical marijuana bill was passed by the Pennsylvania Senate Appropriations Committee and is expected to get a full vote in the Senate today. The bill is far from perfect, but if passed, it would be a great step in the right direction. Especially considering how hard it is to get marijuana reform passed at the state level in Pennsylvania. Philly NORML had the following to say about the bill yesterday:

BREAKING – The PA Senate Appropriation’s committee has passed SB1182 out of their committee. By a vote of 21 – 5, the bill will go to a floor vote tomorrow, Wednesday the 24th.

SB1182 was heavily amended, and no longer resembles the bill we have been talking about for the last 9 months. FACTS:

Only 10 conditions will qualify a patient:
Epilepsy and Seizures
ALS/Lou Gherigs Disease
Cachexia/Wasting Syndrome
Parkinsons Disease
Traumatic Brain Injury
Multiple Sclerosis
Spinocerabellara Ataxia (SCA)
Severe fibromyalgia

The PA Cannabis board would also have authority to add conditions.

Patients will only be allowed to have edibles, tinctures, and cannabis oils – no more whole-plant medicine, no smoking, no vaporizing. It’s not CBD-only; thankfully there are no strain restrictions that we have seen in the language.

  1. You mean a sneaky way of overeating. Sugar is WAY more deadly than MJ in ANY form but the food industry has been pushing that poison on us ever since they were forced to cut fat in their products.

  2. Tom Corbett is history!!! According to recent polls, he will be the first PA Governor in 4 decades not to be re-elected to a second term. He is so far into the pockets of the oil and gas fracking industries and was one of the “good ole boys” who knew about Jerry Sandusky and helped sweep it under the carpet. Now with his antiquated ideas about marijuana he has sealed his own fate. Get out and vote and we can show this f-ing dinosaur the door!

  3. Couldn’t the Republican legislator have as easily said that eating a brownie is a “‘sneaky way of smoking'”? Makes about as much sense.

  4. “It Passed The Pa Senate”

After an emotionally charged debate, Pennsylvania state senators passed legislation to legalize several forms of medical marijuana.

But the bill approved Wednesday, 43-7, faces opposition from House Republican leaders and Gov. Tom Corbett.

The chamber’s debate had been propelled by parents who believe a marijuana oil extract can help their seizure-wracked children.

Under the proposal, state residents would need an access card from the Health Department after proving they have a practitioner-patient relationship and written confirmation of a qualifying medical condition.

A handful of drug delivery methods that do not involve smoking it would be permitted under the bill, including extracted oil, edible products, ointments and tinctures.

More than 30 other states have legalized some form of medical marijuana, according to the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws

  5. The original bill didn’t allow for smoking but did allow for vaporization. Vaporization was removed because one of our “well informed” Republican legislators stated “it’s a sneaky way of smoking”. It’s also amazing the qualifying conditions that were removed from the the bill. They include HIV/AIDS (really? see CA 1996), glaucoma, spinal cord injury, migraine headaches, rheumatoid arthritis and chronic pain to name a few that reduced the list from 40 to 12. I am truly speechless at these changes. The original bills sponsors stated that getting it passed is what matters and changes can be added later. We will see. NJ passed a MMJ bill in 2010 and it is still useless. Its time to vote out these incompetent, ignorant, over paid and under worked morons this November. And don’t forget to vote out our Republican Gov Tom Corbett who stated that he will not sign any MMJ bill that crosses his desk thus the need for a veto proof super majority of votes needed in the Senate and House to pass this crippled bill.
