POLL: Essentially No One Believes Marijuana Users Should Go To Jail

jail marijuana pollBy Erik Altieri, NORML Communications Director

Reason-Rupe has just released new polling data that revealed only a minuscule percentage of Americans believe that marijuana use and possession should result in jail time. When asked which approach they thought the government and law enforcement should take toward someone found smoking marijuana or in possession of a small amount of marijuana, only 6% responded that they should be sent to jail. 35% of respondents said that these individuals shouldn’t be punished at all, 32% responded they should pay a fine, and 20% said they should have to attended substance abuse courses.

The survey also found that 52% of Americans favor federal legislation that would prevent the federal government from prosecuting people who grow, possess, or sell marijuana in the states that have legalized it. Recently, Representative Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) introduced the “Respect State Marijuana Laws Act” which would do exactly that. You can click here to easily contact your Representative and urge him or her to support this measure.

  1. In a dream world,,,,,, if you will.

Lets say me and you owned a prision. I was going to run it, and you went to lobby for us. What would you be asking for?

Do we want to fill our prision with mean violent criminals? I would hope not. Do we want long term nonviolent crimials instead. I would say yes. Non violent people are basically normally good people. Watching over violent crimials hast to be a drag man. Bummer for sure.

As a lobbyist i say you done good for our prision, but you tell me thats the way it already was….. you say you didnt really do anything up there. It was like that already man. I found it like that. I say, what the hell???? It was like that already?????

Wouldnt life be perfect in a dream world.

Lets stop locking people up for nonviolent possession crimes. Lets save those beds for violent criminals. :) what do you say. Lets put our forces to work on those violent crimes out there. Will our forces bulk us then? Do you want to discuss problems that might come up if we were to corner a violent criminal and tell him we were here to take him to jail? Not me man……. count me out of that crap.

  2. MJ has medical value, yet they wont admit it does. The majority of the people wants it legalized, yet they refuse to listen. 70% say the war on drugs has failed and is a waste of our money, yet they continue to fight it. 86% says mmj should be legal, to no avail. Entire States change their laws and they threaten to overrule them. Even 20 states can change their laws and it makes no difference to them. Millions are sick with many very seriously sick and instead of allowing research that could help them, they block it. Hundreds of doctors and several major medical universities beg in vain for research privilege, and they say no.

People needs to wake up. If these elected officials won’t do as we want then vote them out. And I firmly believe the more we learn the more we agree. This has never been a war on drugs, its much more than that. Imo of course.

    Good luck

  3. Check out Dixie Botanicals online and also Dixie Elixers.

Dixie Botanicals sells a CBD hemp oil that is legal in all 50 states with great health benefits similar to THC.
Dixie Elixers supplies the majority of Colorado dispensaries with THC/CBD edibles.

Both companies are owned by Medical Marijuana Inc. (trades as “MJNA” on the stock market). MJNA is the alpha of portfolio companies that has a list of companies they own.

The world is changing and the green rush is fun to see happening!

  4. very nice it should be legal, I’m 49 in constant pain, I take 6 200mg ibuprofen a day which will lead to a bad liver and other problems , if I was able to smoke like a few grams a day not even take i would have a better life in comfort, matter of fact i’m taken 3 200 mg of ibuprofen as I type this . it’s sad that we pay all the taxes but yet have no freedom to say what go’s in our bodies , so we pay the government to keep us from being unhealthy and punish us if we try to have a better alternative way of being healthy what’s next ? plus look at all the people in jail we have to pay for possession of a god made herb it doesn’t make sense at all.
