The Marijuana Industry Could Become Larger Than The Organic Food Industry

organic food industry marijuanaThis week saw the release of a report by the ArcView Group which showed that the marijuana industry is the fastest growing industry in America. The marijuana industry is growing so fast and will likely become so large that it could eventually get bigger than the organic food industry. I eat a lot of organic foods, as does a lot of my family and friends, and to think that an industry that once only operated in the shadows could rise to that level is outstanding. Per the Huffington Post:

Legal marijuana is the fastest-growing industry in the United States and if the trend toward legalization spreads to all 50 states, marijuana could become larger than the organic food industry, according to a new report obtained by The Huffington Post.

Researchers from The ArcView Group, a cannabis industry investment and research firm based in Oakland, California, found that the U.S. market for legal cannabis grew 74 percent in 2014 to $2.7 billion, up from $1.5 billion in 2013.

The group surveyed hundreds of medical and recreational marijuana retailers in states where sales are legal, as well as ancillary business operators and independent cultivators of the plant, over the course of seven months during 2013 and 2014. ArcView also compiled data from state agencies, nonprofit organizations and private companies in the marijuana industry for a more complete look at the marketplace.

Marijuana is mainstream, and the momentum for marijuana reform across the country will continue to build. That is a great thing for justice, and a great thing for entrepreneurs. I’m tremendously excited and optimistic for what the future holds for this emerging industry. Are you trying to get into the industry? Or are you already in the industry? Are you excited too? Where do you see the marijuana industry 5 years from now? 10 years from now? 20 years from now? The future for marijuana is very bright. Very bright indeed.

Silverado so on point. This next generation that is bringing in this movement are people like Me and You. We are the ones that need to take a hold of the ropes now before major corporations take it and run with it. We need to build business now that can maintain and compete with the major players and not let this industry become like the food and alcohol industries have become.
Reefer, if your serious, and know how to grow, im looking to get into this big time and will need a farmer. Entrepreneurial partner. Its minds like ours that meet up behind the scenes and take industries head on.

  2. Thank you for an intelligent response. I have the knowledge, but property, money, etc. not so much. What you suggest in your response would be my dream, EXACTLY what I would love to do with my life. There are so many(too many to type about here) obstacles between me and where i would need to be to even start, as i live outdoors, and all the cultivation I have done has been on someone else’s property. Great pep-comment, though. I will be focused on overcoming those same obstacles towards starting a 100% Organic medicine &herb(&food) farm. Anyone got 40 acres in California to donate?(just kidding) Also love teaching others to grow their own medicine. Peace!

  3. YOU build it and they will come. But also there’s more organics in this industry out there right now than perhaps any other, especially for just starting up. So (I digress and IMHO) the “glass is HALF FULL” when it comes to organics in the MJ industry with room for more improvements AND innovation, of course. And help and results from the various labs keeping honest people honest and an organic MJ industry as a viable option for those that care and WOULD SUPPORT that. There’s nothing like putting your money where your mouth is & working hard on YOUR next great idea, especially in this industry, for perhaps exceptional rewards, not even in the organic cannabis realm. But especially in the organic cannabis realm. The best days of (value added) organic cannabis are ahead of us and Economics 101 says those early adopters/entrepreneurs that can see that and put it into action will also profit from this trend too. Good luck!!

  4. Yes it is. I also think that many, many jobs will be created in all fields of the cannabis plant and it plethora of uses. I try to eat as healthy as I can but can not afford to eat all organic food. This country needs to bring big ag to heal and ban GMO. Humans have been exposed to a ton of crap that is being put in food for the last 60 years and will suffer for it. Look up the Twenty-eight studies that found over 100,000 micro plastic particles in a tablespoon of seawater. That does it for me on seafood. I will never eat it again for the rest of my life but I welcome others to eat it because this planet could benefit by a lower population.

  5. It’s funny that people are surprised by this. I am sure that there were potheads in the 70’s who knew then about this happening.
