The Truth About Marijuana Being Safer Than Alcohol Cannot Be Destroyed

alcohol and marijuanaBy Roy Kaufmann, Oregon Representative, Marijuana Policy Project

As you might have heard, the Marijuana Policy Project recently paid for a billboard in downtown Portland. It was designed to encourage Oregonians to think about the fact that marijuana is less harmful than alcohol. As you can see, it was pretty eye-catching.

Unfortunately, there are some people who don’t support intelligent thought. Within 48 hours, the billboard was torn down! Well, we are not going to let that get in the way of our public education efforts. In fact, we are now inspired to work even harder. This attitude is conveyed by the replacement billboard unveiled today. In bold letters, across a bright red background, it declares, “The truth cannot be destroyed!”

The truth is that marijuana is objectively far less harmful than alcohol. It is less addictive, less toxic, and less likely to contribute to violent behavior. Knowledge of these facts will lead to the end of marijuana prohibition in Oregon. Please help us spread the “Marijuana is safer than alcohol,” message by forwarding this Message to your friends and family or sharing the billboard images on Facebook and Twitter.

And if you want to see more public education efforts like this, please make a contribution of $5, $10, or $100 today.

  1. Roy Kaufmann is going to “work even harder”…at being present for TV interviews and picking up his check on time.

Nothing about alienation of our friends in the micro brew/micro winery industry ? He just mimes the Beltway mantra of MPP. It did work in Colorado against the macro-brewer Coors. They hate cannabis and there was college overdose deaths due to alcohol. Oregon is NOT Colorado.

  2. I agree, you’re sending a message to the vandal and not the community with the new sign.

  3. The new billboard is pretty poorly conceived. I walked by it last night and two of the three people with me had no idea it was about marijuana. Put the cannabis leaf back on it to avoid confusion please.
