Three Former Cops Want To Legalize Marijuana Through Washington State I-502

Washington State MarijuanaCannabis Science, Inc.,a pioneering US biotech company developing pharmaceutical cannabis products, is very pleased to report that two former US Attorneys, and the former head of Seattle FBI, are in favor of Washington State Initiative 502 to legalize marijuana.

On Seattle television King 5 News, two former US attorneys, John McKay and Kate Pflaumer and the former head of Seattle FBI, Charles Mandigo, spoke out on why they think it’s time to change the federal law and to legalize of marijuana.

Pflaumer stated, “It’s a policy position that has become obvious to me over 35 years working in criminal law enforcement and criminal law defense.”

Even though both US attorneys agree that it’s a bad policy, they said it was their job to enforce the law.

Former head of Seattle FBI, Charles Mandigo says he does not condone the use of marijuana, but he supports the initiative, because he feels strongly that the illegal drug trade and the resulting violence is destroying to our society.

State laws vary greatly, but under Federal law cultivation, possession, or sale of any amount, for any purpose, remain illegal. Washington State’s Initiative 502 would allow persons 21 and over to have in their possession either 1 ounce of dried marijuana, 16 ounces of marijuana infused food, or 72 ounces in a liquid form. The state’s Liquor Control Board would manage the system and the estimated income could be over $215 million per year. The state’s DUI laws would be extended to cover driving under the influence of marijuana.

Regarding concerns that the taxes being imposed would so high that this new law would not end the black market for sales, Mandigo replied, “I don’t think that’s the case, I think that most American people want to be law abiding, and given an opportunity to purchase marijuana in a regulated scheme, and not violate the law, that they would choose that as an option. Further if you are selling it under a regulated scheme, you have quality control and you know exactly what the substance is that is being sold and… at a regulated point-of-sale, that you can impose warning labels like you do for the sale of alcohol or tobacco.”

Some people fear that legalization might lead to marijuana becoming available in other places such as grocery stores, as did alcohol. Former US Attorney John McKay said, “The question is whether we should continue criminal prohibition of marijuana… for any amount for any reason. Is that successful? I don’t think so. We have a huge number of persons who smoke marijuana and obtain it illegally and the proceeds go to drug cartels. Better for us to look now at a scheme that we regulate, that we tax, and maintain criminal penalties.”

  1. I agree that big pharm needs to stay out of the way. The pricks I believe have been part of the problem, because they could not figure out a way to stuff the the shit into a capsule or press it into a pill. The stuff is prefect as is. I agree that as a medical paticent i should be able to grow my own weed, my own brand if you will. I also fell that is some how betrays the plant, because it has been given the shaft over the years. FUCK big pharm, but I do not think voting tea party is the way to go either. They are just republican that are looking for a new look, cause GEORGE BUSH the ass wipe just fucked that party up. Which I say right on split and devide all those right wing lying heart land fuck me in the ass big business wall street pricks. They legilize this shit and keep the medical side left alone, I am all for that. I can not smoke 15-20 ounces and have in rotation another 15 plants, good lord tie a string on my ass and fly me like a kite, but i want the option. Plus at the present time they are just about giving away the medical card. If they get bi-polar and ADHD its all over, cause every one just about there.
Any way I just do not see my fred meyers or safeway pharmacy serving up bud. It a culture thing, if i ever have to buy again i want to look and smell and check the diffrent kinds. I do not see the pharmist giving consulation to me a patient who probely dont know jack about weed. So where do we go from here? Really hard to say. I supose the first thing is we will see if the feds move the drug from a C-1 to a C-2. That would really change things for the medical side. It would also clean up some this crap from the superm court, that back employers not the patient who shows with THC in there piss. What a bunch bull shit that is. You say it is leagle but nobody got the balls to say its O.K., and nobody stand behind you and your doctor, which i thought was private. Yes what a bunch of shit, and what a shit storm we are up aginst.

  2. Allowing the pharmaceutical companies to have control over medical cannabis is a bad idea. this is not the right way to go about legalization. It should be controlled and taxed much like alcohol…. but bonus: unlike alcohol (For the most part), it actually has medical benefits.

  3. I-502 is the pharmaceutical company’s way of taking over the market. Vote NO on I-502!!! It’s all about the billionaires making more money. Screw that! Anyone naive enough to believe that this is the way to legalize marijuana, needs to take a step back and look at whats really going on. We’ve got all these governors and cops and attorneys supporting an initiative that makes it illegal for anyone and everyone to grow there own stash. Only designated growers and retailers will be allowed and assigned by the state. (in steps the big pharma) And adults then buy from pharmacies where its sold by licensed pharmacists. Really?!?
Once again Vote NO on I-502

  4. The War on Drugs failed $1 Trillion ago! This money could have been used for outreach programs to clean up the bad end of drug abuse by providing free HIV testing, free rehab, and clean needles. Harmless drugs like marijuana could be legalized to help boost our damaged economy. Cannabis can provide hemp for countless natural recourses and the tax revenue from sales alone would pull every state in our country out of the red! Vote Teapot, PASS IT, and legalize it. Voice you opinion with the movement and read more on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspot.com/2011/01/vote-teapot-2011.html
