There are a lot of cities in America that are very anti-marijuana. They pass moratoriums and bans, making it impossible to open a legal marijuana store within city or even county limits. So it is a fantastic thing when cities/towns respect state law and allow marijuana commerce to occur. In the case of North Bonneville in Washington State, they have embraced the marijuana industry to such an extent that the town itself opened a marijuana store. Per Reuters:

Cannabis Corner in North Bonneville, home to about 1,000 people on the Columbia River Gorge, will sell a range of marijuana products with all profits going back to the local community, city leaders said.

“It’s a really great solution for these small, rural communities that need to raise a little bit of revenue,” said Robyn Legun, general manager of Cannabis Corner.

“I think it’s a really viable option for other towns and cities like this,” she said.

Even in 2015, it’s still hard for me to fit my head around the concept of a publicly owned marijuana store. Yes, marijuana is mainstream, but it blows my mind that we live in a day and age that a town can open a marijuana store. To think, it wasn’t that long ago that there was no legal recreational marijuana in the entire country. I haven’t visited a Washington marijuana store yet, but I think I might just have to make the trek to little North Bonneville. I want to support a town that has such sensible policies.

  1. This is bullshit, why are more people not up in arms about this! This is direct competition upon private individuals. Government and the rich want a monopoly. Come on people…you guys must like being slaves.

  2. I would like to see a follow-up report sometime in the future to see how they’re doing. Also, if any other towns get the same idea.
