Will Denver Ban Outdoor Medical Marijuana Advertising?

medical marijuana advertising ban outdoor denverThe Denver City Council Will Hold A Public Hearing Tonight To Discuss Outdoor Medical Marijuana Advertising

A public hearing will be held tonight on a proposal that would ban outdoor advertising for medical marijuana dispensaries in Denver. The ban was proposed by Denver City Council members Christopher Herndon and Debbie Ortega. According to the City of Denver’s website, the proposal:

Makes it unlawful to advertise medical marijuana within 1000 feet of any school, child care center, park or recreation center

1. Includes the following forms of advertisement:

a. Business signs on the exterior of dispensaries other than the sign which identifies the building;
b. Hand held signs (‘sign flippers’) standing in the public right adjacent to or near dispensaries or centers;
c. Hand bills and leaflets;

2. Excludes the following locations for advertisement purposes, as well as forms of advertisement

a. Parkways (beautification strips) under the jurisdiction of parks and recreation;
b. Advertising in newspapers, magazines and other periodicals (i.e. Westword);
c. Advertisement associated with the sponsorship of a charitable event;

Opinions among the Denver medical marijuana community are mixed. “On one side is the Cannabis Business Alliance, which denounces the proposal by saying it creates too many uncertainties for the industry. On the other is the Medical Marijuana Industry Group, which supports the proposed ban by arguing that it is a show of neighborliness for an industry that is not always embraced.” According to the Denver Post.

What do TWB readers think? Should medical marijuana businesses be able to advertise like other businesses. Do you think that it shows ‘good neighbor practices’ to refrain from advertising where children can see it? I’d love to hear from our Denver readers who are on the ground. I’d also like to hear from people in other areas that see bans like this going up in their areas, or might already have them. You can read the current version of the bill here. 1. Los Angeles had the same battle at city council.
    zoning issues , mostly signs blocking views of others or a sign on Sunset of a persons underwear.
    If you do not find a 30 foot poster of a man or woman in their “calvins” offensive than you wont have a problem with the universal green cross most medical marijuana “establishments” have gracefully accepted as the movements trademark.
    now do not be confused with the hemp leaf. Thats straight-up cheech and chong shit.
    Dont go there! its sacred , too many people associate this with “marihuana ,the devils weed”
    So now we have a little green cross under names like the “gspot”, “kushism”,”green dragon” see “WEEDMAPS.COM”
    They are not hiding (yet)

    I can revue any one of these fine establishments , I have to get/trade/barter for HD camera and camera operator as soon as I get someone to forkup some capitol $ all serious offers considered. “DOOBTUBE’

    So the little “green cross” is a general indicator for the establishments , remember
    These shops are not “hiding” they in competition with each other.
    I think they call that capitalism.
    Advertising has been around since cocacola became American.
    Censorship soon followed. And it has only gotten worse , some people think they know whats best for my body and most of them are politicians not doctors
    (except RonPaul) hes cool

    So the whole advertising market is really just a “free for all” and regulations are put in place. most of them for the wrong reasons but they are a reality.
    Cannabis distributors beg for “sensible regulation”
    all they get is laughed at!
    All most want to do is provide a service and get a salary for doing it. Some are not in it for the money.
    Everyone says ” Its the rogue shop that acts this way” when in truth its the bigger shops that have the money for (big signs)advertisements.
    gorilla advertising is cheap!
    The bars bug me more. I see the same patrons outside when i walk my dog. They cant speak properly
    The sign says “THE LIQUID ZOO”
    so now you know where I live!

    “What do you say to children about CVS , strip clubs , liquor stores and homeless people?
    why do you want us to parent your children.?

    And lastly LA needs to stop “villa-FY” cannabis and the marijuana party in general.
    “After they come after my guns I wont be able to protect my weed”!

    With amendment 64 likely to pass, raising this issue now is just a power grab by the prohibitionist.
    They should wait until after the elections to debate an issue like this.
