With a unanimous vote, the Wisconsin Senate has passed Assembly Bill 726, a proposal to legalize cannabis extracts for medical purposes. The state’s House has already approved the measure, meaning it will now go to Governor Scott Walker for consideration.

If signed into law by the governor, or allowed to become law without his signature, the proposal would make it legal for practitioners to recommend, as well as dispense, cannabis extract (such as oil or tincture) that’s low in the psycoactive compound THC (tetrahydocannabinol), and high in CBD (cannabidiol).

Governor Walker has not taken a position on the bill, though he says he will evaluate it now that it’s passed the Senate and House.

  1. It’s a step forward, but the fight isn’t over at all. CBD only provides some of the medical benefits that cannabis provides. Let’s hope that this doesn’t prolong the prohibition of legal medical marijuana in every form, and even recreational usage.
